The path unties through a vegetation characterised by white asphodel, ferula, asparagus, leone’s mouth, wild carnation and cabbage rock. The sheer cliffs are colonized by bush of capers, euphorbia and the typical prictly pear. The kestrel supervises the vegetation with its “holy spirit”, a typical flight for the identification of preys. Do not miss visiting the cathedral of Cefalù (Unesco World Heritage).
Today you will discover Abies Nebrodensis, an endemic Sicilian species on the brink of extinction. The 30 specimens grow at an altitude between 1400 meters and 1650 meters above sea level in the territory of Polizzi Generosa. The path starts from a wide beaten road inside the pine forest which opens up to the view of Mount Quacella, 1896 meters above sea level. From here, take a smaller path that leads to the majestic trees. Visit to the city of Enna located at 931 meters above sea level.
Monte Soro, 1847 mt high, is the highest mount of the Nebrodi, on the way to the top you will cross an evocative beechwood: Maple, Ash, Hawthorn, Holly. The stroll will allow you to admire the monumental Mountain maple, one of the largest in Italy (22 meters in height and about 6 meters in diameter). After you will go downhill in direction of the Lake of Maulazzo, located on the north eastern slope of the Monte Soro, a very important site from a naturalistic point of view. Visit of the village of Alcara Li Fusi, nestled in the Nebrodi mountains.
Morning transfer to the starting point of the path that will take you in the heart of the Madonie at the discovery of the giant hollies. This naturalistic area is one of the most interesting of Sicily thanks to the presence of more then 200 plants of giant hollies. Here the plant grows 15 mt of height. Deep in the woods, there are plants of olm oaks which, due to strong winds and goats’ bites, are shaped like cones. From here you can admire views over the Tyrrhenian sea, the Aeolian islands, the Nebrodi Mountains and the Etna. In the afternoon visit of Caccamo with its Norman castle and the lake Rosamarina.
The Nature Reserve of the Zingaro is the flagship of the Sicilian reserves. It extends for 1650 hectars and it is the first protected nature area in Sicily. Here wild nature and human settlement coexist in harmony. Unique for its vegetation, it boasts some species of orchids, some endemic. The palmetto is prevalent and is watched out by the Bonelli Eagle (endangered raptor).
The coluber, the weasel, the hedgehog and the porcupine also populate the reserve. Do not miss visiting the rural village of Scopello.
The Monte Cofano stands between San Vito and Erice, the Gulf of Bonagia and Makari. You will start with a visit of the “Grotta Mangiapane”, a cave in the rock, built and inhabitedby the Mangiapane Family until the end of the war. Today it is a peasant museum and gives an idea of how was living in this territory. Continue the excursion crossing the “Passo della zita” (the passage of the girlfriend) through the ancient “Tonnara” ending at the Bay of Cornino. Visit the medieval town of Erice boasting a majestic castle from where you can admire the Nature Reserve of the salt pans.

who love to mix history and archaeology with a luxuriant nature. The path allows you to discover the site from the above and enjoy beautiful views over the temple and the Monte Barbaro. Here there are the remains of the Greek teathre and of the following Byzantine and Arab architectural stratifications. You can enjoy an excursion through a romantic canyon of high white rocks.
